In September our James Pinchbeck joined 16 fellow cyclists for the 2026 Bridge to Bridge challenge, riding from the QEII Bridge at Dartford to the Humber Bridge over two days in support of the Sailors’ Children’s Society

The event raised a record £50,088, bringing the total raised over its last four years to £106,982. The funds help the charity provide financial, practical and emotional support to children and families from seafaring backgrounds facing hardship and crisis.

For James, the journey covered 210 miles—including around 50 in the rain. The camaraderie, encouragement and good humour among the riders helped everyone through the tougher stretches and made it a memorable experience.

Thank you to Adam Walsh for planning the route and to John Good Group for its generous support. Special thanks also go to Elly Taylor for organising the event, and to Natasha Barley, Rhiannon Beeson, Lee Pearson and Gosia Tomaszewska from Andrew Marr International for looking after the cyclists and keeping spirits high.

Event mechanic Gareth Joseph helped keep the bikes moving, while Blink Video accompanied the riders throughout the weekend to capture the journey—with its own Sam Cawley also taking part.

The charity also recognised the valuable support of Hull Trains, Beerhouse Self Drive Hire, Woods of Hornsea, CT1, Ken Ellerker Cycles and SportVision, whose contributions helped keep event delivery costs down.

James is particularly grateful to everyone who supported his fundraising, including LCS IT Solutions, Streets Law, Business Link Magazine, Tunstall Financial Management and Denby Transport, alongside the many individuals who made personal donations.

The record result reflects the collective effort of the riders, organisers, sponsors, support crew and donors—and will help the charity support families when they need it most. You can still support the cause - Support James’s fundraising for the Sailors’ Children’s Society
