Supporting The Handmade Pie Company

Before Christmas, Pinchbeck Marketing & Advisory offered two businesses a complimentary half-day marketing consultancy session as a Christmas gift. One of those recipients was Paula Holliday, Founder of The Handmade Pie Company.

Paula launched her business in March 2025 and quickly built a loyal local following for her exceptional handmade pies. A professional chef by background, the quality of her product was never in doubt. Like many owner-led businesses, however, marketing had become noisy, reactive, and difficult to prioritise alongside day-to-day production.

As Paula later reflected:

“I’d read the books, listened to the podcasts, and done what most people do — I winged it.”

Cutting Through the Noise

The half-day session was deliberately short, focused, and practical. Rather than introducing more ideas, the aim was to simplify — cutting through the noise to identify what truly mattered now, what could wait, and what would make the biggest difference in the next stage of growth.

In just a few hours, the session helped Paula:

  • Clarify what genuinely makes her pies special

  • Shape a clear and consistent brand narrative

  • Identify practical gaps in packaging, messaging, and customer experience

  • Create a short, prioritised action plan she could realistically work through

Paula described the experience as:

“James understood my business and the chaos within it incredibly quickly — cutting through the mud to give me the strategic clarity I’d been missing.”

A Very Practical Reminder of Quality

Of course, no session with The Handmade Pie Company would be complete without tasting the product. The East Marsh Beef & Guinness pie — later enjoyed at home — was everything a proper pie should be succulent, lean beef, a beautifully balanced Guinness-infused gravy, generous filling, and a rich, buttery pastry case. It was a timely reminder that at the heart of this business is an exceptional product that genuinely deserves a wider audience.

From Creativity to Commercial Clarity

The session brought together creativity with commercial reality — ensuring the brand story supports growth, sales, and scalability, not just inspiration. Importantly, it did so without ego or dependency, giving Paula confidence and independence to move forward in her own way.

As she put it:

“I’m genuinely looking forward to cleaning things up, getting out of the mud, and cracking on with the focused strategy and direction my business really needs.”

Why This Matters

Many owner-led businesses don’t need more ideas — they need clarity, focus, and confidence in the direction they’re taking. This session shows how the right support, at the right time, can cut through the noise and create meaningful progress quickly.

For Paula, the outcome wasn’t a long to-do list or a complicated marketing framework. It was a clearer story, stronger priorities, and renewed confidence — all built around the quality of what she already does exceptionally well.

If you’re an owner-led business feeling stuck in the noise, a small amount of focused time can make a very real difference.
